I was drawn to the way this residence seems to dissolve the boundary between architecture and its environment. Its sculptural curves catch the Melbourne sunlight, while the greenery spilling over the facade softens the geometry of the building. Against the expansive sky, the structure feels less like an object imposed upon its surroundings and more like something growing out of them.<\/p>
The plane was passing overhead at the moment I made the photograph. Its presence introduced something unexpected: movement and distance into an otherwise still composition. Australia is a country defined by its relationship to distance \u2014 by looking outward, travelling, and connecting with what lies beyond the horizon. And so for me, the photograph became a small expression of a contemporary Australian sensibility: expansive, optimistic and closely connected to the natural environment, while always looking outward and ahead.
