Australian Facades

Australian architecture is at its heart, contemporary. There was nothing to build on in the country beforehand, so it doesn’t have much of an historical identity. But a modern architectural identity has been forming in the cities, gradually, decade after decade, construction after construction. And on a 2025 journey up the east coast of the country, I noticed many buildings that captured this chic modern Australian aesthetic of mixed textures, asymmetry, metal and concrete, and building higher and wider then ever before. A snapshot of the country’s modern identity can be cut from the facades of its buildings. Silver award winner in Architecture in the 2025 Analog Sparks International Photography competition.

Shot on mixed film.
