La Geria Landscapes

More reminiscent of a Martian landscape than anything you’d expect to find on Earth, this is the La Geria region of Lanzarote, Spain. It is one of the most desolate and volcanic islands in the Canaries. The grape vines are planted individually into craters dug in the ground, which offer protection from the wind and help trap moisture in the soil, alongside the little stone walls built around each crater. No other place in the world grows grapes like this, it is entirely unique to Lanzarote. Honourable Mention in Landscapes in the 2025 Analog Sparks International Photography competition.
